Over the last year or so, looking after my skin has become more and more important to me – I’m certainly not getting any younger for a start – and now that I cycle to and from work, its essential that I look after my skin and cleanse it properly -what with all the road traffic pollution and dirt it picks up from my daily commute.
This summer I’ve truly made the most of finally having my weekends free. B & I seem to have spent more weekends out of London than we have in, be it staying with friends and family down in Brighton or sunning it in the South of France, either way it’s been hectic but so much fun, and I’ve definitely made the most of working 9-5 Monday to Friday. Anyway, as we’ve been so busy I’ve been living out of my wash-bag, not bothering to empty it in anticipation for another weekend away, and so I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you what’s in it.
If you were going to add any of these products to your daily routine, this is the one I would recommend most! I actually picked up this and the Bioderma Hydrabio Tonique on my trip to Carcassonne last month, and now use it twice a day. It’s essentially just a deep cleanser, I use it after washing my face with the Khiel’s product. Micellar water seems to be pretty popular at the moment, and in my opinion it definitely does make a difference. I’ve always jumped straight on to a toner after my face wash , but you would be so surprised at the amount of dirt left on the cotton pad once I’ve used this. As with all Avène products it’s designed for sensitive skin, and gently removes impurities leaving the skin clean, clear & refreshed.
It’s pretty common for men to associate toning lotion with make-up removal, and therefore often leave it out of their daily routine – but it is so important to tone once you’ve cleaned your face; it closes your pores, preventing them from clogging back up with dirt. This Hydrating toning lotion is specifically designed to help fight skin damage caused by pollution, and it encourages the skin to maintain its natural water balance. I’ve been using this for the last month and would definitely recommend it for sensitive skin; it’s non-alcohol based, hypoallergenic and fragrance free!
I’ve been using this product for years, it’s a facial cleanser which doubles up as a really gentle daily exfoliator. The reason I’ve always opted for this over other face washes is because of its slightly gritty texture, that feels like it actually scrubs your face free of dirt and oil.
Again this is something I’ve had for a while; lately I’ve been trying to wet shave rather than use an electric shaver – as from what I’ve heard, it should help reduce the amount of ingrowing hairs. This balm soothes and calms the skin, and also helps prevent bacteria entering micro-cuts caused by shaving – great if like me, it really irritates your skin.
I never used to bother using an eye specific cream, and would make-do with normal moisturiser, but this stuff is great! The skin around your eyes is a lot thinner than that of the rest of your face, and so it makes sense that it needs to be treated differently, this product uses avocado oil to help keep the skin around your eyes hydrated.
And finally the wash bag, it’s part of Campbell Cole’s Annex collection, its a black soft grain leather with a double zip and internal pockets. I absolutely love it, it’s the perfect size for me to fit all my skincare products in, plus general bits and the essential paracetamols, perfect for brief weekend aways and long summer holidays – but lets be honest, its all about the looks, Campbell Cole know how to get it right when it comes down to leather goods, check out their wallets and bags!
