I’m sorry this post is going up really late – I had intended for it to go up on Tuesday, but it’s been a really hectic week. The Fam and I were supposed to be spending this weekend in Madrid, but we’ve had a little bit of a crisis and so have had to postpone. It’s all sorted now and everyone’s fine, and not wanting to waste the bank holiday, we decided to book a last minute break in the countryside of Warwickshire. We arrived yesterday and it’s lovely here, its 8am and I’m currently pitched outside in the garden watching the pied wagtails hop around catching flies, whilst drinking a cup of tea. It’s not quite Madrid, but I’m enjoying it all the same. Right now on to the post . . .

I’ve been living in London for about six or seven years now, and for the first five of those I used to make special trips down to Brighton each month to get my hair cut – not very economical I know, but I’m extremely fussy when it comes down to my hair and I’d been using the same barber since before I could even walk. Over the last two years however, I’ve had to accept that I can’t keep this up, and have been searching for the right barbers ever since, somewhere in London where I don’t have to fork out on a £20 return every time.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I was kindly invited by the team at Murdock to visit one of their barbers for trim. I’ve been aware of the brand for a while now, but had yet to visit for a cut. I stopped by their Covent Garden store on Monmouth Street, just off Seven Dials; I can tell you know it was one of the best haircuts I’ve had in a while. I went for my usual, short back and sides with a slightly disconnected fade, which I wear pushed back. I’ve had it like this for a while now, occasionally getting it all cut off to wear forward and messy, but I always seem to revert back. It’s just an easy low maintenance style, which always looks relatively smart and takes all of two minutes to fix in the morning – gone are the days when I’d spend about 15 minutes straightening it (I was about 16 so don’t judge).

Aside from the barbering services, they always have a massive range of men’s grooming products; shaving brushes, fragrances, skincare and obviously hair products. And they actually sent me away with a pot of their Matt Putty, which I’ve been using ever since; it’s a nice non-greasy but re-workable product, which holds well and doesn’t melt as soon as you step into the sun. They’ve got a fair few stores in London, there’s one in Shoreditch on Redchurch Street and then another in Soho on Brewer Street, so if your ever in need of a sharp trim I’d definitely recommend looking them up.

Enjoy the bank holiday, Ta A
