There’s nothing better than seeing your friends succeed, through hard work, passion and determination – not to mention, by being amazingly talented! Daniel graduated from Central Saint Martins in June 2015, and since then he seems to be caught in a whirlwind of success, laying down the foundations of his namesake label, Daniel W. Fletcher. His graduate (SS16) collection comprised of printed silk pyjama sets layered with shear striped shirts and heavy leather jackets. It took its theme from the gentrification and re-development of areas around the capital, using Peckham’s current social issues as his main point of inspiration. Within a matter of weeks of his CSM graduation show he was approached by Opening Ceremony, who is now exclusively selling his 8 piece Graduate Capsule Collection.
Last Wednesday I went along to his AW16 menswear presentation. I’m not sure how he’s managed it as he splits his week between Paris, working for Louis Vuitton, and running his own menswear label here in the UK but the collection looked amazing. It carried across features from his SS16 collection, perfectly blending British heritage with sport/streetwear. The looks included bright mohair jumpers, more silk pyjama sets and bonded leather jackets – again pulling influence from current social issues with tongue in cheek ‘rent caps’. The event doubled up as a presentation of the new collection and the photoshoot for it’s look-book, it had a polished but laid back vibe, and the models seemed to be having as much fun as the guests. The whole evening was styled as a classic school photo, complete with mottled blue backdrop, graffitied school trunks and group/class shots.
