April Showers – H&M Studio SS17

14th April 2017

It’s that time of year again when all everyone wants to do is chuck on a pair of shorts, whip out their legs and lay in the sun – last weekend was glorious and that is exactly what I did – topping up my drastically depleted reserves of vitamin D whilst enjoying a couple of beers. However, the good old British weather always fights back and the big grey dome has officially resurrected itself over London for the easter weekend. A couple of weeks ago, B and I headed over to the Barbican to shoot this post and as soon as we arrived the heavens opened, but . . . I kind of think it made the shoot a little better – silver linings and all!

This entire look (except the Reebok classics of course) was from the H&M Studio SS17 collection. I only heard it about it through social media on the day it launched, and panic-bought far too many things online, but this is what I settled on. For me the whole look-book was amazing, even if a couple of the sheer pieces were a little too daring for my style – but all the same it was refreshing to see high-street brands like H&M pushing things a bit. Growing up I was strictly a Topman guy, and now as an adult COS is definitely my go-to high-street brand, but H&M have really been pulling it out the bag lately – ย their general direction seems to be moving away from the bold prints and colours I’d always associated it with, to a more paired back look, structured clothing, interesting mixes of materials and layering.

I really love the translucent upper panels on this pullover rain jacket; of course you can’t just chuck it on over anything, but the frosted finish mutes what you have on underneath and pulls it together pretty well. The top has – though it’s not super clear from the shots – a layered hem panel (for want of a better description), with a zip on the back of the neck. The cropped trousers; I practically live in these at the moment, and at first glance seem to be a cotton mix but on close inspection are a jersey jogger, complete with a drawstring waist fastening. They are incredible comfortable, I’ve never opted for a cropped trouser leg before but if like me your a little short, they help create the illusion that your ever so slightly taller. Anyway you can shop their collection here and watch their Studio SS17 video here.
